Have Yourself a Cancer-free Christmas

Merry Christmas from Malungai LIfeOil

It seems off-timed to blog about cancer when the world is all abuzz about the forthcoming most wonderful time of the year.  Real talk, however, cancer knows no holidays.

Cancer is a genetic cell mutation process gone awry. It is all about cell degeneration due to cell oxidation.

Oxidation happens when simple oxygen atoms in our molecules loss their partner electron. What the 'aggrieved' (oxygen) atom does is to seek out, or steal, another oxygen atom from other molecules to replace the pair it lost. The process repeats as the oxygen atom missing its pair steals yet again for the same reason. Oxygen atoms with unpaired (or missing) electrons are known as free radicals.

It is at this stage when things go haywire. As oxidation drags on for a while, the cell and molecules in our cells are damaged. Extensive cell damage provides the setting for the onset of certain cancers.

There are a variety of reasons for the occurrence of cancer. It can be genetic, radiation (UV: sun, x-ray, gamma, radio waves, et al), poor diet, sedentary lifestyle, tobacco/cigarette smoking, alcohol, and ingesting carcinogenic food.

Woman with cancer "But the most common cancers projected to turn up this year, 2016, according to the National Cancer Institute in Maryland, USA are breast cancer, lung and bronchus cancer, prostate cancer, colon and rectum cancer, bladder cancer, melanoma of the skin, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, thyroid cancer, kidney and renal pelvis cancer, leukemia, endometrial cancer, and pancreatic cancer," says a recent study.

In its finding, the World Health Organization, tagged tobacco use as the top risk factor for cancer as it accounted to about 20% deaths globally. 70% of it to lung cancer; second, to cancer-causing viral infections at 20%, and the remaining 'cancers' divided among the 5 leading behavioral-dietary risk factors like high body mass index (BMI), low fruit/vegetable intake, sedentary lifestyle, tobacco, and alcohol use.

ChemotherapyCancer management

Surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and immunotherapy are just some of today's traditional protocols for cancer management. But, like any other treatments, they have risks as well. Nothing is essentially hundred percent guaranteed to work. Cancer can remiss, or relapse, without warning.

The unpredictability of cancer makes it difficult to pinpoint with accuracy how it reacts to treatment. Sometimes even the 'fixes' give birth to other health problems.

Professor Mel Greaves, an expert in childhood leukemia, opines: "Developing more advanced cures would only lead to cancer cells becoming more resistant to treatment." He believes that experts should center on prevention.

Prevention over cure

The best way to never even face the need to fight against any disease, cancer included, is to basically keep the body healthy and strong. And while we're at it, here are some practical cancer prevention tips from the experts:

1. A healthy diet.

For our body and its organ systems to run smoothly, we have to provide it with proper nourishment. Not just any nourishment, but it has to be the kind that contains all the nutrients the body needs to function efficiently and sustain its own health. Vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and fibers. These are non-negotiables. Functioning organ systems guarantee an efficient, full-functioning body and overall immune system sans free radical contamination.

2. Exercise

Exercise is the kind of physical activity our body needs to burn calories and unneeded fats. Since being overweight increases the chances of contracting cancer, losing weight through exercise is a great idea. Sweating is also good for the body. An explains: "Sweating is known as the "natural detox." When you sweat, toxins and other waste products are expelled from your body through your pores.".

3. Healty lifestyle

Nothing beats a healthy lifestyle that is the result of healthy lifestyle choices. We are what we eat. We become what we do. Simple as that.

Moringa as a superfood

When it comes to healthy eating habit, nothing beats natural nutrients. As Hippocrates, Father of Medicine, put it: "Let food be thy medicine; and medicine thy food."

Up in the tier of natural superfoods, known globally today, is the Moringa Oleifera, also known as the Miracle Tree. Known for its highly nutritional profile, it is packed with over 92 nutrients, 46 types of anti-oxidants, 36 anti-inflammatories, 18 amino acids, and nine essential amino acids.

Moringa's antioxidant attributes, likewise found in its nutrient and fiber chemical makeup, support the body against free radicals. Moringa's rich provisions of flavonols and phenols, phytonutrients containing Vitamin C, flavonoids, tocopherols and other phenolic compounds, are essential for the fortification of organ systems against cell damage. Moreover, these antioxidants also have the capacity to disassemble and terminate contaminated oxygen atoms from within, paving the way for cancer prevention.

Out in the market today is Malungai LifeOil natural supplement made from pure moringa leaves and seeds oil extract. It has captured in a capsule the natural nutrients that malunggay has. Each capsule is equivalent to half a kilo of fresh malunggay leaves. It also has retained the chlorophyll of the plant, an essential nutrient that we can only get from fresh green leafy vegetables.

Christmas or not, it is important to always choose a lifestyle that will enable us to lead long and healthy lives. After all, health is the best gift we can ever give to ourselves – and loved ones as well.
